Senior Payroll Officer (immediate start)

About the Company:

Urgent payroll temp or contractor needed (start work this week!) for flexible hybrid role in Auckland CBD.
A well-established organisation with a busy payroll function covering both New Zealand and Australia. The payroller works closely with People & Culture, Finance, and IT, and they are looking for an experienced payroller to step in quickly and ensure a smooth handover, with the option to improve processes.

About the Role:

Starting ASAP (literally, this week if possible!), this is a hands-on payroll position covering monthly and fortnightly pay runs across NZ and Australia. You’ll be using MYOB, SAP, and Excel to manage payroll, enter new starters, process reporting line changes, and oversee reconciliations. The process can be manual and has its own complexities, and they are keen for someone who can spot inefficiencies and improve processes while keeping things running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • End-to-end payroll processing for NZ & AUS employees (about 500, monthly, fortnightly, wash-ups)
  • Managing timesheets, overtime, and payroll inbox queries
  • Reconciling payroll reports and liaising with Finance for approvals
  • Identifying process improvements to streamline payroll operations
  • Extracting and manipulating payroll data in Excel (REM review, reporting, variance analysis)

About You:

  • Payroll expertise: You’ve worked in manual, high-volume payroll environments before and understand the challenges.
  • Process improvement mindset: You’ve identified inefficiencies and improved payroll processes in previous roles.
  • Excel whiz: You’re confident using VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, pivot tables, and formulae, to perform data analysis, manipulate payroll data, and create reports.
  • Stakeholder management: You’re comfortable liaising with Finance, IT, and People & Culture teams.
