About the Role:
As a Financial Accountant, you will play a key role in ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, tax compliance, and financial processes for the Rūnanga. You will work closely with the Group Financial Controller to manage financial reporting, statutory compliance, and financial controls while supporting the continuous improvement of financial systems and processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare draft statutory accounts, audit working papers, and financial statements for assigned entities.
- Ensure compliance with tax obligations, including preparing and submitting tax returns.
- Maintain the general ledger and manage month-end financial reconciliations.
- Oversee fixed asset register management, ensuring accuracy in depreciation and reporting.
- Support year-end processes and external audits, liaising with auditors and third parties.
- Provide financial analysis, reporting, and insights to senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Strengthen financial controls, ensuring compliance with best practices and regulatory standards.
- Assist with cashflow management and reporting for subsidiaries.
- Provide training and mentorship to the Accounts team, fostering capability growth.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial efficiency.
About You:
- A tertiary qualification in accounting or a related field.
- CAANZ membership (or working towards CA status).
- 3+ years of financial accounting experience in a large or complex organisation.
- Strong technical expertise in financial reporting, tax compliance, and accounting standards (GAAP, PBE IPSAS, Charities Act, etc.)
- Proficiency in ERP systems (preferably Microsoft Business Central) and Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerBI, and financial reporting tools).
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Experience working in a Te Ao Māori environment is an advantage.
