About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key leadership role within the Financial Accounting and Control team. As the Technical Accounting Lead, you will ensure Te Rūnanga meets statutory reporting requirements, complies with tax legislation, and upholds the integrity of financial information. You will provide expert advice on accounting standards, lead technical financial projects, and mentor junior accountants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver specialist financial accounting services to support the Rūnanga’s strategic outcomes.
  • Provide expert advice on accounting standards, taxation, and financial compliance.
  • Prepare key financial statements for the Annual Report and oversee month-end and year-end processes.
  • Manage external audits and liaise with auditors and third parties.
  • Ensure compliance with NZ tax obligations (Income Tax, PAYE, GST, FBT).
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial controls, reconciliations, and reporting processes.
  • Mentor and train junior accounting staff, fostering a culture of professional growth.


About You:
 
  • Chartered Accountant (CA) or equivalent qualification with a minimum of 7 years’ experience in financial accounting.
  • Strong technical expertise in accounting standards, tax legislation, and financial reporting.
  • Previous experience in a Big 4 audit firm or a similar complex accounting environment is highly desirable.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP systems (preferably Microsoft Business Central).
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic financial insights and influence decision-making.
  • Experience in a Te Ao Māori work environment is an advantage.
