Ko Te Wānanga o Raukawa tētehi kei mua e haere ana mō te tuku me te whakatupu i te mātauranga ki te paetoru i runga i te kaupapa Māori. E kimihia ana tētehi tangata toitoi manawa, he kanohi kite mamao, māna a Te Wānanga e ārahi i runga i te tōtika, me te oke anō kia hāpainga ngā uara me ngā tikanga Māori. Kua horahia e Te Wānanga o Raukawa ngā ara maha e ako ai te katoa i runga i ngā tikanga Māori, ko ngā mātāpono o te rautaki whakapakari iwi nei, o Whakatupuranga Rua Mano, te tūāpapa. Ko tēnei rautaki e whakapuaki ana i ngā tūmanako o ngā iwi e toru nei, o Te Āti Awa, o Ngāti Raukawa, o Ngāti Toa Rangatira (te Kotahitanga o ART), nāna a Te Wānanga o Raukawa i whakatū.

Ka āta mahi tahi hoki ki tō mātou poari, arā, ki Te Mana Whakahaere, tae atu ki ngā kaimahi me ngā iwi ki te whakaputa i ngā hua mātauranga papai nei, ki te poipoi i te tuakiri Māori, me te whakapau kaha anō kia kairangi tonu te taha whakahaere.

Ngā Kawenga Matua:
  • Ko te ārahi i runga i te aronui ki ngā kaupapa Māori, me te whakatinana anō i ngā uara o Te Wānanga o Raukawa i ō mahi urungi katoa, i ō mahi ārahi katoa.

Te Wānanga o Raukawa, a leader in kaupapa Māori tertiary education, is seeking an inspiring and visionary Tumuaki to lead our Wānanga with integrity, cultural insight, and a commitment to Māori values and tikanga. Te Wānanga o Raukawa provides an opportunity for all to learn within a tikanga Māori framework underpinned by the principles of the iwi development strategy; Whakatupuranga Rua Mano: Generation 2000. This strategy captures the aspirations of the founding iwi of Te Āti Awa, Ngāti Raukawa, and Ngāti Toa Rangatira, “The ART Confederation”.

As Tumuaki you will be responsible for giving expression to the guiding kaupapa of Te Wānanga o Raukawa.

The Role:

As Tumuaki, you will provide strategic direction, uphold our kaupapa Māori framework, and lead a dedicated and experienced team committed to empowering our Māori learners. You will work closely with our Board, Te Mana Whakahaere, staff, and iwi to enhance educational outcomes, foster cultural identity, and ensure operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead with a kaupapa Māori approach, embodying our values in all areas of governance and leadership.
  • Develop and implement strategic goals to enhance the impact of Te Wānanga o Raukawa in the education sector.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including iwi, hapū, and other external partners, to strengthen relationships and partnerships.
  • Ensure financial sustainability and operational effectiveness to support our growth and innovation.
  • Effectively represent the organisation, becoming our face and voice in the public arena.
  • Maintain a key balance between stakeholder priorities and delivering results focussed on value creation for Māori.
  • Alongside Paihere Tangata, manage the professional development, improvement and performance of staff.
  • Report and advise the Board on policy development, finance and resourcing considerations.

The Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for a decisive, visionary leader with experience in kaupapa Māori education who demonstrates strong strategic, operational, interpersonal and leadership skills. You should be able to communicate and inspire effectively in te reo Māori and english, with a proven track record in managing teams and building meaningful relationships with iwi and other Māori stakeholders. You will be highly visible, approachable and charismatic as our Tumuaki with a sound knowledge of issues and opportunities affecting te iwi Māori.


Qualifications & Experience:
  • Demonstrated commitment to kaupapa Māori, Te Reo Māori, and Mātauranga Māori.
  • Significant experience in senior leadership, preferably in education or a similar field.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience in organisational management.
