Winter is nearly here and it is that time of year when the numerous winter coats I brought from England get another airing. Remarkably, things are seemingly normal in New Zealand, that it is sometimes difficult to remember what a hard time people are having in other corners of the world. I feel very lucky about where I live and work.
A few months ago the general feeling was that it was going to be another challenging year and in some respects, I am sure it will be. But we are seeing an increase in business confidence, which leads to job creation amongst other things. Our team here at Tribe have seen record business levels across the board in the last few months.
Supply Chain, Procurement and Operations team revenue Q1 2021 was up by over 55 percent when compared to Q4 2020 - a great result! We are seeing more businesses feeling more confident about recruiting and adding additional headcount.
We are seeing a marked increase in the demand for Supply Chain, Operations and Procurement professionals. Our team is currently recruiting an enormous variety of roles within the supply chain space in Auckland and the regions. The demand is at a level I have not seen before in nearly 11 years of recruiting in this space, here in New Zealand.
MORE JOBS ADVERTS ON SEEK IN MARCH THAN EVER BEFORE
The latest SEEK Employment Report shows the biggest rise in month on month performance since June last year with an 11 percent national growth in jobs advertised in March 2021. In addition to this strong month on month growth, new job adverts on SEEK also increased 55 percent when comparing March 2021 to March 2020.
For context on the other side of the coin, candidate applications decreased by 24 percent between Q4 2020 and Q1 2021. This goes to show that more candidates are looking for job security and are wary as they are perhaps wanting to take a ‘keep my head down’ approach after the past year or so.
While all appears to be back to normal on the surface, it is not quite there yet. I am no economic expert but I listen and read a lot and it appears the pandemic will have lasting effects for many years to come. The hiring landscape may still be constrained albeit to a lesser degree than last year.
