International Women’s Day (IWD) is more than just a date on the calendar; it’s a global movement, a call to action, and a powerful reminder of the work still needed to achieve true gender equality. This year, the theme ‘Accelerate Action’ challenges us to go beyond conversations and step up with meaningful, measurable change. At Tribe, we sat down with our Chief, Emma Scott, to hear her thoughts on IWD and what accelerating action truly means in today’s world.
What does this International Women’s Day mean to you, and why is accelerating action more urgent than ever?
"International Women’s Day is a wonderful reminder of the progress we’ve made toward gender equality - but there is a lot of work still to do. This year, accelerating action is more urgent than ever because, sadly, gender disparities persist in leadership and opportunities. Achieving true equality isn't just about fairness - it’s about unlocking the full potential of brilliant humans.
For me, IWD is also quite personal, as it happens to be my birthday. Each year, I take some time to reflect on the incredible women who inspire me. I feel so lucky to be surrounded by women who have voices, speak their truths, and truly care about lifting others up. Their courage and commitment fuel my own drive to ensure that equality is not just an aspiration but a reality."
What actions are you taking to accelerate gender equality in your workplace?
"It’s about taking action beyond awareness and committing to real change. At Tribe, we ask ourselves: What can we do? It starts with fostering inclusion, achieving pay parity, understanding responsibilities outside of work, and accommodating them.
I’m really proud that 100% of our people feel comfortable doing what they need during work hours - whether that’s attending a school cross-country run, a mammogram, taking time out for wellbeing, or supporting parents who need care. We create an environment where transparency is key, empowering people to take the time they need without guilt. Gender equality isn’t just about policies—it’s about culture, and that’s something we work hard to build every day."
What advice would you give to individuals who want to make a real, lasting impact in accelerating gender equality?
"Move beyond performative actions—real impact requires commitment, resources, and measurable goals. It’s not just about saying we support gender equality; it’s about embedding it into every level of decision-making.
We all need to listen to women’s experiences and include them in shaping our strategies, ensuring diversity and inclusion are not just buzzwords but priorities. And remember, gender equality is not just a women’s issue - everyone has a role to play. Diverse thought leadership isn’t just a ‘nice to have’; it’s essential. When we bring together different perspectives, we create stronger businesses, smarter solutions, and a more inclusive world."
Accelerating Action Beyond Today
This year’s IWD theme challenges us all - business leaders, employees, and individuals - to actively participate in shaping a future where equality isn’t a distant goal but a lived reality. At Tribe, we know that change doesn’t happen overnight, but by fostering an inclusive culture, championing transparent conversations, and ensuring real flexibility in the workplace, we’re taking tangible steps toward lasting impact.
