About the Role:

Reporting into the CEO, the Chief Marketing Officer position is a greenfield opportunity and a chance to build a world class marketing function and team to position Netball as the premier sport in New Zealand for years to come. You will lead a team overseeing marketing, brand, customer experience, events, and content strategy, driving digital innovation and leveraging data to enhance brand equity and fan engagement. This role sits on the leadership team at Netball NZ and because of the strategic nature of the role, it will be required to present to the Board.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead Marketing Strategy: Develop and implement a customer-focused marketing plan, ensuring smooth integration across all branding, marketing, and content activity.
  • Manage Brand and Content: Oversee marketing campaigns for key events and programs, ensuring they reflect the right messaging and goals.
  • Drive Digital Innovation: Promote the use of digital tools and analytics to improve segmentation, engagement, decision-making, and success.
  • Optimise CRM and Data Insights: Improve customer experiences by refining digital channels, CRM, and using data to boost engagement and loyalty.
  • Lead External Communications: Ensure consistent messaging across all channels, working with the Senior Media & PR Advisor on media and government relations.
  • Support Event Strategy: Collaborate on event strategies for both domestic and international events, aligning marketing with sales and engagement goals.
  • Build Stakeholder Relationships: Develop strong connections with internal teams and external partners to drive netball’s growth and visibility in New Zealand and globally.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Work with senior leadership, agencies & partners to align marketing and event strategies with Netball New Zealand’s long-term vision.


About You:

With so much scope and opportunity in this role, it’s definitely the most exciting Chief Marketing Officer position I’ve seen for a while, and with that comes a lot of responsibility.

We are looking for a marketing superstar from the following background.
  • Education & Experience: A Marketing/Business degree with 10+ year’s experience in the services sector building best practice marketing disciplines & processes for well-known businesses and brands.
  • Customer Experience Pro: A proven champion of customer experience strategies that make fans love what you do.
  • Marketing & Branding Guru: Expert in media, marketing, and branding, with hands-on experience in executing major events.
  • Digital Trailblazer: Well-versed in digital marketing trends and tools, leading the way in digital innovation.
  • Visionary Leader: A strategic thinker who inspires a customer-first mindset and makes bold, future-focused decisions.
  • Business Savvy: Deep knowledge of business trends, understanding how digital moves the needle, and always driving the next big thing.
  • Team Motivator: A modern leader who sets big goals, encourages open communication, and keeps the team energised and on track.
  • Communicator & Sport Enthusiast: A gifted communicator with a passion for netball, always putting the sport and customer experience at the heart of your decisions.
