Hexagon is a strategic supplier of services to governments around the globe providing critical business solutions. In New Zealand Hexagon have been a trusted partner to NZ Public Safety agencies for over 20 years providing command & control systems essential to the public’s safety. To continue the support and growth of this trusted partnership, Hexagon were ready to appoint a Technical Director.
Daina Mancey, Human Recourses Director for APAC at Hexagon’s Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial division, worked along side our Executive Search Lead Brad Gatehouse to appoint Nico Smit as their new Technical Director based in Wellington. A strong ICT leader spanning over a decade, we spoke to Diana on the new appointment and her experience with Tribe
"Our New Zealand business is integral to Hexagon’s success and we take great pride in ensuring a high quality service for our NZ customers.
The appointment of Nico Smit in a key Senior Leadership role as Technical Director – Service Delivery will be integral to our success in the local market, as we strive to grow by delivering high quality products and services to current and new customers. Nico stood out as having a great attitude and the talent to be a strong leader for our team in NZ, displaying a good mix of technical, customer experience and people leadership skills.
The selection process, let by Brad Gatehouse at Tribe, was smooth and effective. Brad and his team communicated regularly and were very prompt at organising interviews and additional testing as we required. I would highly recommend Brad for any Senior Management/Executive level role search." Daina Mancey, Human Recourses Director for APAC at Hexagon’s Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial division.
With over a decade's experience as an ICT leader Nico saw a true opportunity to be part of something bigger and making our communities safer. He share his experience working with Brad and why the move to Hexagon aligned so well with his values:
"Having dealt with a large number of search/recruitment agencies both as a candidate but also, significantly as a hiring manager, I have found more often than not, a very regimented and processes driven approach being taken by agencies, especially in the current, very busy labour market. So, it was refreshing to experience the genuine people centric approach displayed by Brad and the Tribe team as I navigated the numerous interview stages. Brad's regular check-in's, updates and follow-ups were not only appreciated but helped make the entire process far less daunting.
Having worked in numerous leadership roles across the public service over the last decade, I felt it was time to step out of my comfort zone and test my metal in the private sector. The opportunity at Hexagon stood out for a number of reasons but primarily:
- The work Hexagon does on a daily basis, saves lives. What better calling to align oneself with than an opportunity to contribute towards making our communities safer.
- The work Hexagon does in NZ, supporting critical services allows for continued alignment and satisfaction of my own core values and beliefs, especially the opportunity to continue to contribute towards a better NZ for generations to come.
- The diversity of the people (experience), culture, technology, and services within Hexagon provides opportunities for daily growth and learning."
