Mō te Pakihi | About the Organisation:

Te Tāwharau o Te Whakatōhea is the Post Settlement Governance Entity (PSGE) tasked with managing Treaty settlement assets and those of the Whakatōhea Māori Trust Board for the benefit of its members. It supports the preservation of culturally and spiritually significant sites for the Iwi and promotes the educational, spiritual, economic, social, and cultural well-being of the Iwi and its members.

It has established Te Pou Oranga o te Whakatōhea Charitable Trust to deliver on its social and health outcomes.


Mō te Tūranga | About the Role:

The Trustee works to uphold the values, tikanga (customs), and aspirations of Te Whakatōhea, ensuring the Trust’s activities align with its long-term vision and support the future well-being of the Iwi. Trustees will act as kaitiaki (guardians), safeguarding the Trust’s assets to benefit both present and future generations of Te Whakatōhea.

The Trust’s key outcomes emphasise governance, cultural leadership, financial stewardship, community impact, and stakeholder engagement. The Trustee aligns decisions with the values and aspirations of Te Whakatōhea, protecting its future by overseeing the Trust’s assets and resources to advance educational, health, social, and environmental goals.

There are three vacancies.


Mōu | About You:

You’ll have experience in governance or leadership positions, preferably within iwi organisations, charitable trusts, or community development initiatives. A comprehensive understanding of tikanga Māori, te reo Māori, and the values and aspirations of Te Whakatōhea is required. Proven experience in Crown engagement and negotiation, along with a solid understanding of Tiriti o Waitangi principles and settlement processes is needed.

Strong collaborative skills are essential for effectively working with fellow Trustees, management, and stakeholders and a tertiary or postgraduate qualification in business, finance, health, social services, education, or a related field is desirable, enhancing your ability to make informed decisions.

You’ll be dedicated to advancing the interests of Te Whakatōhea, leveraging your expertise to foster positive relationships within the community and promote social, cultural, and economic well-being for current and future generations.
